I was a fan of Susteen's DataPilot software to back up phone data for the family until I recently ran into a number of issues. I now recommend you find another solution as Susteen's business practices will cause you to throw money down the drain.
I recently purchased a Motorola Q phone. Since it didn't show up on the list of phones in DataPilot but did appear on the web site as a support phone, I thought I'd upgrade. After forking over $30, the software automatically upgraded, but the phone didn't show up on the list of support phones. I was able to find a work around using Outlook and the MIcrosoft ActiveSynch.
Since I loved the Motorola Q, I bought three more for our family of five. Once again Susteen screwed me in my attempt to use the code to backup and restore phone contacts. This time, it was due to a more sinister reason. When you buy a new copy of DataPilot, you can use the software with up to eight phones. If you upgrade for about the same price, the phones you have already used count toward the eight! You cannot delete any previously used phones - even if you last communicated with them years ago.
It makes no sense to buy the DataPilot upgrade. You will run into the eight cell phone barrier and will have just thrown your money away. |
